The Watchtower may feel that way but I don't think even they are dumb enough to put it in writing. Where did this come from?

I don't understand life or the universe
by Decided ini'm 75 years old and am confused about life and god.
all explainations seem made up by some religious person or some written book that doesn't make any sense to me.
why doesn't a god just let us know that he exist in some way that all people could understand.

Sorry Ken but you're a little late. You should have asked me 30 years ago when I had all the answers. I kept them in a little blue book that had all the right question and all the right anwers to life the universe and everything. I seem to have misplaced it.
About that time I discovered Douglas Adams and was watching Carl Sagons Cosmos. They along with some other things in my life were making the remains my Watchtower god and belief system seem very small. Even when I was still a Witness some of my beliefs were becoming more Eastern than Western. Once out I was started to learn how to enjoy the journey and not worry so much about were I was going. I still go to church when I can and believe in God but what I believe now isn't set in stone. It is always evolving. I can accept that this is my path and might not be yours or anyone elses so I don't feel the need to beat anyone over the head with my beliefs.

Dinner With a Pioneer Couple Last Night
by dontplaceliterature inmy wife and i had dinner with a pioneer couple last night that we've been friends with for a long time.
they are both nice people, with the wife having a few dashes of pretentiousness mixed in.. usually when we are together, they always talk about pioneering, which makes some sense as it's the primary focus of thier lives.
however, it has gotten progressively more dominate in conversation over the last couple of years, to the point of being annoying.

It took all I had to bite my tounge and not blurt out the fact that Jehovah doesn't give a diddly squat if they get their 70 hours or not, because most of it would have been a waste of time driving around and knocking on Not-At-Home doors.
Maybe the next time you have dinner with them it will come out. Nothing wrong with a little honesty. These people are wasting their lives away and trying to get others to do the same.

Advice for a non-witness dealing with a fiance's witness family
by JAG913 inmy name is jaime and i'm here because my fiance recommended this site.
i am not, nor will i ever be, a jehovah's witness.
i strongly believe it is a cult, but i also am respectful of the choice people make to associate themselves within the witness "world.

I see so much good advice I don't see any need to add anything but wanted to say welcome to the board Jaime

What is happening to JWN ?...So many topics not relating to Jehovah's Witnesses!
by koolaid-man innote the home page..wow how it has changed.. jehovah's witness discussion forumthe place to discuss anything relating to jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower bible and tract society... or just make new friends!.
many of the posts have nothing to do with with jehovah's witnesses and new ones coming on this board would be turned off by the content of many of these off color posts.
foul inappropriate language which is not proper or suitable for exiting witnesses to visibly inspect.

The Watchtower tried to make us all the same and think about the same things. Once someone is out they have the freedom to go in the direction they see fit. That is what you are seening here with one common thread and that is their association past or present with the Watchtower. There isn't one particular mind set here. If there was I wouldn't enjoy it.

I feel like I found me again
by gubberningbody ini'm sure others have had the same experience, but it's a bit odd to me now as i see how all the business of jw-land and the constant social proddings can keep a person from leaving for quite some time.. if it hadn't been for the inquisition i might not have left.. .
i'm glad they felt my wife and i were important enough to hound, because that helped immensely.. now for the past two years now i've finally gotten back to being the book-consuming, thinking-machine i was in the past.. .
i feel like i woke up, came home and found myself sitting in a chair reading some odd sort of esoterica and the me that was there said:.

That sounds like so much fun. I would love to do that some day. I love the snow and winter sports but don't get much of them down here.
Maybe that kid will be in the NHL one day.

We would have elders come over to see us but again I was told I am not doing enough bible reading and field service
I was told that I needed to do the same thing when I was depressed. It turned out that being a JW was causing my depression.
Thanks for the story. Please continue.
